Hold Fast.(see the extended entry for photos)Getting the design laid out correctly: Klem at work…. Not really painful, as tattoos go, but man, annoying: Right hand done: HOLD fucking FAST: The green stuff is sharpie, it’ll wash off.
Hang on tight, it means. Stay steady. Don’t give up.
Sailors used to tattoo it on their knuckles, as a charm and a reminder. Don’t let go the rigging, lest you be swept out to sea. Certain death, that meant, when you had sailing ships and men who could not swim. Hang on tight, or it’s Davy Jones Locker for you.
Bikers used to wear it. Hang on tight, keep the rubber side down.
To me, it means, simply, don’t ever give up. Strive for what you want, for what you believe.
Hold Fast.

Getting the design laid out correctly:
Klem at work. This is a really annoying sensation, having your fingers tattooed. Not really painful, as tattoos go, but man, annoying:
Right hand done:
HOLD fucking FAST:
The green stuff is sharpie, it’ll wash off. The other ink of course, won’t.

Whatever you do, don’t lose a pinkie in a kitchen mishap or you’ll get old fast.
Christ. This was two fucking years ago. Wow.
…I never thought I’d still be here today…, as the man says.
aye mate like the hold/fast tat, being a Mcleod myself and all.anyway just wondering if u hey anymore Mcleod tats such as the clan crests or banners cause am thinking of getting 1 myself?
Hugh-
Actually I’m a MacRae, but fortitudine doesn’t fit well on the knuckles. hold fast, though, predates the clan use (as I’ve heard), but in any case, has a sailor/biker meaning (the same core meaning as the clan use, if more literal).
The clan tattoo (Fortitudine) is planned to go across my abs (as with Tommy Lee’s ‘mayem’ tattoo), but it requires I get actual visible abs again. One more goal to work toward! B^)
So are you doing situps these days? I love the idea of a “Mayhem” tattoo. Work for that goal!
