Ok, my geek is showing.

This is where my fetish for knives crosses my geekery.

I’ve been looking for months for where I can get Jayne Cobb’s Bowie Knife from Firefly.

I’ve wanted a big-ass bowie knife for years. I’ve got balisongs, switchblades, straight-razors, tactical folders, bayonets, daggers, throwing knives, a million kitchen knives, machetes, pukko knives, buck folders and buck hunting knives, swiss army knives, opinel folders, gerber folders.

But I don’t have a bowie knife, and I’ve wanted one forever.

So I just ran across something on a browncoat site identified that BFK (Big Fuckin’ Knife) Jayne carries. And of course, I want one.

The Rough Rider Patrick Henry Liberty Bowie Knife:

Bowieknife2

Of course, it can’t be that easy. It’s out of production. The only company I can find that has them for sale is taking back-orders, but can’t tell me an ETA. On the other hand, I know a guy (who is an order of magnitude higher in geekdom than I) who makes an exact replica of Jayne’s sheath. Which means that, if I can ever find the goddamned knife, I also can get the sheath I want.

Ok, now, who’s giggling at the word ‘sheath‘?

I know. I know. Geeky. I can’t help it. I have weapon lust. I must have that knife.

  1. Heh…and people say I’M a Jossian geek!

Chelsea–you get that skirt…I’ll want pics!

DN, he could be worse…he could be looking for a working copy of “Vera”.

Karl, I’ve got a connection that’s a knife-seller/dealer. I sent him the URL and I’ll let you know if I drum up any leads for you.

  2. I had a Bowie knife, of course it was a rubber one I got from Disney World.

I did manage to learn how to get a cheap buck knife out faster than my (then) girlfriend’s butterfly knife.

    HA! I won.

  3. Well, my lead didn’t pan out much–he’d recommended checking “rec.knives” in Usenet for any leads on the knife in question.

Found an article on Fireflyfans.net regarding the make of the knife, and someone mentioned the Smokey Mountain Knife Works. I’ve been to their showroom in Sevierville, TN, and there’s more cutlery there than I ever knew existed. You might check with them…and it’s in Darkneuro’s neighborhood. You might convince her to take a little road trip to look for you firsthand.

  4. You’re way too cool, Spck. I think I gots a line on one though. Browncoats, you know. Pack rats.

Ella, go ahead an’ start without me. I’ll catch up.

  5. Am I the only one who can’t get involved in a tv series wiithout playing the Who Would I Wanna Do game?

And sure, I picked Jayne. I think he’d be really fun for five or six days. Possibly a week.

    Of course… I also picked Inara oh-my-lord…

    xoxoxoxo

  6. You’re far from the only one, C. I rank ’em in ‘to do’ order.

I do the same things at parties or in meetings, of course, when I’m bored. B^)

My to-do order for Firefly goes:

    River -> Kaylee|Inara (tie) -> Saffron -> Zoe -> Simon -> Mal|Jayne (tie) -> Book -> Wash.

There are some other supporting characters who earn honorable mention in this list, but we’ll stick with these.

Of course if I start thinking sandwiches and N-somes, then. Um.

    …I’ll be in my bunk.

  7. Hey terrence, you know, i love dave’s rings. I wanna get one, but I can’t swing it right now price wise, unless Dave wants to help a brutha out on that so I can post a review. B^)

  8. Man, try http://www.serenitygear.com and take the link to the dude’s eBay items for sale. Did it today and there is the knife and sheath ! $105.00 US.

I would have bought it but I already have one on the way Downunder, from his serenitygear site.

    Cheers,

    A fellow browncoat/knife enthusiast.

P.S : And yes, I’m working on getting a working VERA (gun collector too !!)

P.S.S. River ? C’mon !! INARA any day of the week, anywhere / anytime !!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Andy, I in fact already picked up a knife/sheath combo from Tim, the serenitygear guy. It’s beautiful, and the knife is huge and fucking heavy. I wish I could just wear it on my belt all day.

And hell yes, River. I like ’em broken. Inara’s a stunner, and a close second, but she’s too, you know, intact for me.

  10. If you’re still interested in this knife, check out any knife dealer who carries LINDER knives, and look at their ALASKA BOWIE. The last time I loked, the price was around $250,so they’re not for the casual buyer.
