  1. I’ve never been to Kauai, though my family has. What are you going to do there? I know you scuba, do you do other sorts of “activities” or do you chill? Where are you staying? Let me live vicariously through you!

  2. Nice! Do you surf? I love surfing.

Not that I do it, I just like to watch it. eh….

Nice pic, btw, of you in HI. Cute…

  3. Hiromi, here: http://tinyurl.com/2o8tbs is where I’ll be in poipu. I just got lucky, i had a small house near old koloa landing booked and it just fell through (the plumbing, evidently, just died a horrible death); the rental agent scrambled and found this big-ass place had been cancelled today, and she snapped it up and is gonna let me have it for the same price. Quite the score.

Poipu is the southern shore, the more touristy side of the island, but also near the best diving and the best beaches.

Hanalei is on the north shore, and much more hippy-dippy/old hawaii (it’s at the mouth of an agricultural valley). I’ve never stayed on that side before, but it’s a lovely town with a great beach and this great pier you can jump off of into a calm bay: http://www.hanaleihale.com/Hanalei%20Pier.jpg

When I’m not diving, I try to do as little as possible, though odds are I won’t sleep or lay on a beach near as much as I want, given that I can’t really sit still.

There will, though, be rum drinks under palm trees.

Eve – no, no surfing. Much diving, some snorkeling. I don’t have the coordination for surfing.

That’s what I thought, but I was determined to take surfing lessons. While it’s not easy, it’s also not as hard as I thought. I have *really* crappy balance, but I was able to stand up on my third try. It’s a wonderful experience — if I ever relocate to a beach-y place, I’m going to take it up.
