Metalflake adventure continues. I screwed up the l Metalflake adventure continues. I screwed up the lower cutaway on my Silvertone with a drip of kandy finish. The kandy will eat through to the original finish if you leave a drip; I should have let it dry and sanded it instead of wiping away. But with some careful sanding and masking and a restart on the area, the repair is almost indistinguishable. Once I re-flake re-kandy I think you’ll never know. We learn more repairing mistakes, frankly. #metalflake #rothmetalflake #flakebomb #rattlebomb #silvertoneguitars (ignore the color difference, different light, etc)

Grain fill (in a darker color), @angelusshoepolish dyes, Mohawk precat sealer, then top coat - current test is danish oil vs tru-oil vs Brite Tone matte poly. I MIGHT test pure tung oil and a hard wax oil if I can’t decide. Ignore my garish color choices, the artist in the family is gonna make magic in a few days here. @barbmama

The starcaster (rickencaster? Rickenstar?) project The starcaster (rickencaster? Rickenstar?) project is coming along. Both pickups work, pickup height is dialed in. The switch still needs surgery (one of the wires is too short so I can’t get it spun around so neck is up,) but that’s an easy fix. Meanwhile the T & A chip has a home, and I got the strings on the right way this time, so less facepalm. I’d like to upgrade the bridge and stop tail if I can find a set in black to match the pups, but otherwise upgrades are done-ish. It sounds great, but I suck at demos, you’ll have to come over and play it yourself. I am using this as a learning exercise, so I need to adjust the neck next, another first try.
I’ve been playing guitar for quite a few years n I’ve been playing guitar for quite a few years now, and have changed strings dozens and dozens of times. But somehow I still managed to wrap the wrong way. 🤣🤣🤣
