What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

I have no will or energy for cooking, so we started calling in a radius out from my home to find a fun place to eat. God knows the family needs festival this year.

The good thing is, we found something close. The bad thing is, I think I could buy a new motorcycle for what it’s gonna cost.

What are you folks doing (or if you read this after, what did you do)?

  1. Well, after I get out of work tonight at 1, I get to go home, see Sic-un, eventually go to bed. Sic-un will be getting up at 6:30 to watch the Macy’s parade, I will be asleep.
He will start the ham (glaze prepared after I’m out of here), and the sweet potatoes. We’re planning on eating about noonish to twoish (after I get up about 11), then I get ready to come back here from 4 until 1 with my leftovers from the noon meal tucked into my bag for the nightly nosh. Work is planning the traditional Thanksgiving feast of (wait for it)
hamburgers and hotdogs. This was decided in lieu of a taco bar. Of course, all the agents are expecting to be told ‘Go home early’, but since we’re contractually obligated to be open, I will not be off at a decent hour.

This will be my Thanksgiving. Enjoy the restaurant, the menu looks FABULOUS!

  2. I had my big Thanksgiving dinner with my daughter today. We spent the afternoon putting it together. I was fun. Tomorrow I’m going to San Diego to visit Dad. And this weekend I have a date to go the Neon Tour of L.A. So I’m having some fun here.

  3. Woke up too damned early, and started thinking about what I’m doing…
I want to be by myself and plan my day around my own needs. NOPE.

I am spending a few quiet minutes alone.
I am baking a birthday cake before a Turkey.
I am cleaning a disaster of a house.
I am celebrating both with some people I don’t know.

I am going to drink wine in the early afternoon, and I’m going to enjoy myself…

I hope that you do as well! Take care!

(I’ve recently noticed that I love your early morning posts! Doesn’t help with your sleep though.)

  4. Out of 10 years together my ex and I went out for Thanksgiving dinner a couple of times that we were able to forego families. It was fabulous. Being waited on and not having to do one damn dish on Thanksgiving is something to give thanks for in itself. I hope you enjoyed what looked to be an elegant meal. Motorcycle aside, sometimes food is the best way to spend a boat load of a money.

I actually spent this Thanksgiving with my ex (we do that sometimes when we’re both single which we both are at the moment) and we cooked a simple meal and gave thanks for the fact that we’re still in each others lives.

    Eve

  5. Turkey day was very last minute but one of the most memorable ones ever.

We went to the desert to ride in the dunes. We’d been invited and then uninvited to a pot luck… which is just weird considering that the pot luck happened about 50 feet away and in our view (guess they hadn’t heard about the pilgrims and Indians).

I’d gone to Costco and bought precooked turkey breast (pre-stuffed too) and some scalloped potatoes. We did a last minute run to the supermarket for canned cranberries, stuffing, green beans and bacon.

Those not invited to the big group pot luck weren’t the best cooking crew of the bunch so I just did it all myself- except the two ovens warming precooked goodies.

Ah politics. This wasn’t my crew so I didn’t know exactly what was going on but many people stopped by after we ate and apologized and pointed fingers (middle fingers) towards she who was responsible for my friend Gary, his father, his new girlfriend and Mike and myself from joining the group gathering (our turkey wasn’t dry).

There was no real muss or fuss. I think I put an hour in but others did the dishes and since we were camping we were using paper plates.

And with foresight I’d bought a second turkey breast- perfect for sandwiches.

Hope your holiday was a good one.

  6. The meal at Plumed House was fantastic. The best pecan pie I’ve ever had, a chestnut soup I wish I could recreate, fantastic wines, and no drama whatsoever.

I won’t say it was the best thanksgiving I’ve ever had; but it was as close to perfect as any of us could hope.
