Ink Ink Oink

We used to say this, my friend/boss Jeff and I. It meant — I’m a pig, and I’m needing to get a tattoo. Or sometimes, I’m getting tattooed. Ink Ink Oink. We both happily labeled ourselves pigs. People who had sex on the brain 24×7. People who never had a non-sexual thought. Ink Ink Oink […]

Ink Ink Oink.

We both happily labeled ourselves pigs. People who had sex on the brain 24×7. People who never had a non-sexual thought.

Ink Ink Oink described that feeling of tattoo lust that we were both prone to; that compulsion to get another tattoo, right now.

This is focused on adult blogging, but a lot of the advice is really good for any blogger.

From SpankBoss at SpankingBlog, a page of Blogging Tips:

DO: Do blog every day. This doesn’t mean you can’t miss a day. It just means that, week in and week out, your visitors should find something new every time they come to your site — so they’ll make it part of their daily routine.

Don’t: Don’t fall into the trap of thinking traffic doesn’t matter. It does. Remember, you are building a personal brand, even if you never hope to make a dime from it. That means you want readers, and you want exposure. Again, why bother to blog if nobody reads? It’s a lot of time and energy; for most people, the rewards for that include positive feedback from as many real people as possible. Also, if you are blogging about adult topics, the traffic you’ll earn has a substantial economic value, because you could sell ads whether you choose to, or not. Eventually, people will start offering you money for your blog and your domain name. There are also practical benefits to having lots of traffic. If you link someone, and their server stats go through the roof, they are more inclined to link back to you.

Etc, etc.

Take a look. Some of the advice is great, particularly about things like having a blog roll, linking to other blogs, and commenting on other blogs. This is what brings traffic to your site. Worth a look for any blogger, but warning: it’s a sex blog and not really work safe.

–The Kinks, Holiday In Waikiki

I’ve been talking a lot lately about Hawaii with a certain impossibly delicious friend of mine. Specifically about the allure of living there.

She’s never even been there and she can feel it call out to her.

I’ve been there a lot; roughly twice a year for the past ten, though there are some gaps in there where I went elsewhere (Fiji, Turks and Caicos, Cozumel) for my fixes of tropical climate and warm-water diving.

But Hawaii always calls to me. No matter how many times I go, no matter how often I say let’s go someplace else. No matter how touristy and commercial certain parts of Hawaii get, still, I hear it call.

Book list meme

Go back via Julie’s blog and keep clicking back up the trail, it’s fun to see how this list changes.

Here’s mine. I have ten billion books so I tried to make this a cross-section; it’s not exactly representative of my collection.

1. Tim Powers
2. Charles Bukowski
3. J.R.R. Tolkien
4. Hunter S. Thompson
5. Lewis Carroll
6. Bram Stoker
7. Dashiel Hammet
8. Daniel Handler
9. James Fenimore Cooper
10. William Shakespeare

Pajama Party

So it wasn’t quite the Hef sort of pajama party, with love in the grotto and bunnies and a cast of thousands. It wasn’t even rated pg-13. But I had a damned good time New Year’s Eve. We started with the concept of a dress-up cocktail party, classic hors douvres (Hell, I’m never sure if […]

So it wasn’t quite the Hef sort of pajama party, with love in the grotto and bunnies and a cast of thousands. It wasn’t even rated pg-13. But I had a damned good time New Year’s Eve.

We started with the concept of a dress-up cocktail party, classic hors douvres (Hell, I’m never sure if I’m spelling that right), martinis, classic cocktails, you get the idea.

But several people bagged out, we had kids in tow, and our holiday week wound up busier than expected; we all wanted to hang, but couldn’t quite manage the full party we’d visualized.

So someone called an audible at the line of scrimmage, and full-dress cocktail party became pajama party.

Now, normally, I don’t do PJ’s. I don’t even own pajamas. But I kept thinking Hef. So I agreed. Though the best we could do at Target at the last minute was some too-long black silk pajama bottoms with a black thermal shirt. But it worked; and oh, does silk feel good against a shorn scrotum.

So it may not have been Hef, but I still had the world’s most fabulous babes:

And a good time was had by all. Silk, you know! Plus look who I’m cuddled against.

Here There Be Monsters

I awake to a new year this morning. I feel, as I always do, some vague sense that things should be different. That the world outside my window should look fresh. Reborn. But it never does. Last night’s, yesterday’s issues are still there to be handled, no clearer, no easier, no more manageable. Yesterday’s joys, […]

I feel, as I always do, some vague sense that things should be different. That the world outside my window should look fresh. Reborn.

But it never does. Last night’s, yesterday’s issues are still there to be handled, no clearer, no easier, no more manageable. Yesterday’s joys, also, are still as they were.

But I want a fresh start. A slate wiped clean. Tally the score and see how we did, start again and hope to do better.

Slashdotted by Proxy

I tracked it down — it seems that traffic spikes run downhill; Brandon over at contemporaryinsanity.org just got slashdotted, and since I’m on his all-around cool people list, that slashdot effect has washed over onto me in the form of lots of hits, and lots of comment spam.

Funny how these things work.

Gotta wonder if anyone’s actually reading though; if people don’t comment, I never really know.

It was a dark and stormy night

Ever spend time writing and feel like all you get is Bulwer-Lytton? Hard to tell though, when you are deep in a trenches, what you’ve got and what you’ve not got. I sometimes suffer from too many ideas and not enough time, but sometimes it’s the reverse, time with no ideas. Only time will tell; […]

Hard to tell though, when you are deep in a trenches, what you’ve got and what you’ve not got. I sometimes suffer from too many ideas and not enough time, but sometimes it’s the reverse, time with no ideas.

Only time will tell; though of course, there’s never really enough time.

Speaking of time, what year is it again?

Chibi

RIP Chibi. We expected the last one, Addison, to go. This was a shock. Chibi seemed fine two or three days ago. Addison was old; Chibi was barely a year. We found her cold and struggling to breath, and it was like a re-play. But once she was warm, Chibi started to move around and […]

We expected the last one, Addison, to go. This was a shock. Chibi seemed fine two or three days ago. Addison was old; Chibi was barely a year.

We found her cold and struggling to breath, and it was like a re-play. But once she was warm, Chibi started to move around and I thought it would be ok. Weak, sick, but I thought we could save her. Olivia and I bundled her in a tee-shirt of mine and raced across town to the emergency vet.

We handed her to the woman at the desk, who said “Oh, guys, I think it might be too late.”

Chibi had died on the way there, warm and bundled on Olivia’s shoulder. She left our life as she entered it, in a car, kept warm under Olivia’s chin.

Final chapter in the skull ring story.

I wrote recently about Tony Creed.

Today, after being assured that I wasn’t going to get a ring for xmas, this showed up in a small black box under my tree:

Skullfist-5

Tony Creed rules. Take a look at what it says under the eye sockets in the skull. That’s right, Elvis Lives. Tony did that because he wanted to, because he liked my name and wanted to make a ring that said “Elvis”. We didn’t know that’s what we were getting; we just ordered the 13.

I’d buy more jewelry from Tony in a minute. The dude’s just cool. The ring is beautiful. Exactly what I wanted.
