It’s hard to suss out how much they’ve goofed around this ride; the video’s a little choppy and dark, and this is the Florida version, already a distant second in quality to the Anaheim original. But still, seeing Captain Jack inserted in the classic scenes bothers the hell out of me.

Not that I have any objection to Captain Jack; I frankly love the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. But the movie is a completely separate entity from the ride. The ride is the real deal, the original, Walt’s finest hour. The film is a new thing, a recent invention, an inspired by idea that’s brilliant on it’s own. But they need to not blur. They need to not merge into one thing.

I hate when the modern Disney company changes stuff like this; they change it to pump the money machine, to move more merchandise. And that’s not Walt’s company, that’s not the Disney I love. With each pointless ride modification, they get farther from that Disney, Walt’s Disney, and become more soulless.

I fear what I’ll see when I go back to Anaheim. I don’t need to see Captain Jack on that ride. I want my pirates back like it used to be, back when the pirates chased wenches and not trays of food.

I’m waiting to see what Re-Imagineering has to say about this. because they get it.

  1. Can’t exactly imagine you scared! Disgusted maybe… And you are definetly the pirate to chase the WENCHES! And love every minute of a wild ride.

  2. Let’s put it this way, doll, when I say scared, I mean I have a bad feeling about this in a han-solo-in-the-garbage-compactor sense.
