Firefox 2 was just released, and I have to strongly suggest that anyone not running Safari move to this new Firefox right now, particularly if you’re still running Internet Explorer.

I’ve been running the FF2 beta for several weeks and it’s a seriously cool browser, even without a lot of tweaks and plugins installed. They’ve fixed bugs, plugged security holes, and made leaps and bounds in terms of improved performance.

Go get it. God, please, get the hell away from Internet Explorer, all of you!

I just found a page of cool, simple firefox hacks you can do with no plugins. I love this kinda shit.

  1. Bless your piratical little heart for plugging this, Karl Elvis. Who still uses IE, except for people who read my site with it and then complain bitterly about stuff not working right.

    Argh.

Oh, that rabbit thing was … well … I enjoyed it, in a twisted sort of way.

  2. So, you like Firefox then?

Some blogs look terrible in any browser, because they’re poorly done. Period. A browser can’t help a badly designed webpage. Another period.

So you know what I did? I installed IE7 the other day. Yes I did. Aaaaaaand, now, it truly sucks. Sucks so large that I have the Firefox page marked. But I hate installing things. Something always goes wrong. 🙁

  3. Ach, KE, you sound just like my boyfriend. And many of my good friends (who tend to be computer geeks). You Mac people – it’s a cult, I tell ya, a cult! Though I would kinda like to get a refurbished iBook soon.

But yeah, I finally stopped using IE earlier this year and switched to Firefox. I admit, I like it better.

  4. My email this morning contained a jpeg of a my blog taken with IE! Stupid thing can’t even read an image right so I simplified my blog yet again. I too am blessing Karl. I don’t think that IE’s new upgrades are going to come close to fixing there build in stupidity!

Go to Firefox! I never looked back. Everyone in my family followed me. I’m upgrading to Firefox 2 today as part of my “To Do’s”

Can’t we type “Super Elvis” to “screw with evil spambots”?

  5. CE, deep down I’m not a mac person – despite my place of employment. I’m a Linux/Unix person. THAT is exactly why I’m so down with the mac, because under the hood that’s just what it is.

  6. A Mac you say? Sure, if I had spare million dollars lying around I’d be all over one.

I really don’t think the browser’s my issue. IE7 is speedy on the desktop, but kind of slow on my laptop, but I’ll download FF and if it does anything nasty I’ll come back here and flame, as I’ll be using your link.

    Yeah, you should be worried.

  7. Well, it’s done now for better or worse. It did one good thing though, allowed me to change code on Lee2 so it looks the same in both browsers.

    Back to work now.

  8. welp, I guess that means bondage for me. I am not downloading it, I did that once. Something in it destroyed my Skype and my computer crashes all the time when I open it. Then again, I am on a crappy pc.

  9. Learned something today. Firefox 2.0 does not get along with one of my favorite add-on’s. The one for private browsing and prevents tracks from being seen! Hmmm. How long before they fix that? But then again- I haven’t used it for awhile anyway so what do I care.

  10. Firefox 2.0 has not “officially” been launched yet hence the bugs. I suggest waiting ’til it has. If(which I and anyone else who uses F/fox recommend)you have earlier versions, just keep checking for updates under Help. And fer Chrisake, stay away from IE!

  11. Shaun, yeah it has: http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=20112

That’s why the announcement; I was running the pre-release versions but FF2 is in official release as of October 24.

The thing that’s important to remember is that FF2 is under active development by people who actually know what they’re doing; they’ve done more in a couple years than the IE team have done in a decade, AND will continue to stay ahead; they’re miles ahead now and and there’s no chance IE will catch up, the fact that IE7 exists is an example of M’softs lack of a grip on the technological world. They’ve lost due to a poor tenchnology and a horrific development model, yet they’re still spending money developing a browser that’s never going to be anything other than behind the curve.
