A hat pulled down low hides the price on his soul

And you can’t see his eyes or his longing- -A hat pulled down low Hides the price on his soul. There’s a ship which won’t be long coming; So when he gets on board You just whisper the word. Takes a last look over his shoulder, Sees the sun going down Watched by no one around So where are his friends now he needs them?

I was going to post more song lyrics.

And then I read something of Buck Daruma’s, and, you know, had to admit it means writer’s block.

Which is exactly what it means. I can’t write a fuckin’ thing. Hell, all weekend, I’ve been unable to even email, or IM, or text message. I’ve been totally incommunicado.

It’s like I’m out of words. I barely managed to get an entry on goofy golf done yesterday and that’s only because I forced myself. I didn’t want to sit down at the computer at all.

I sit with a mixture of anger, melancholy and fatigue. And I feel like I should write about it but can’t.

So.

So song lyrics anyway. I noticed a hit in my logs from a search on Horslips, the first important celtic rock band, a band that no in the USA has ever heard of but that U2 isn’t afraid to rip off.

I haven’t listened to ’em in ages, but it turns out I have half their catalog ripped in iTunes. So I started listening to them tonight, and am bathed in nostalgia for my teens. I wore out the grooves on Book of Invasions, actually had to buy a second copy. I loved this band, god I loved them.

This one Come Summer, wasn’t my favorite Horslips song when I was playing then records to death, but for some reason speaks to me right now.

There’s a fire that you can’t see burning.
There’s a voice on the wind
And it’s telling who’s sinned.
It belongs to the sad lonesome stranger
Who’s been cheated so long
He’s forgotten the song.
And you can’t see his eyes or his longing-
-A hat pulled down low
Hides the price on his soul.
There’s a ship and it won’t be long coming;
So when he gets on board
You just whisper, just whisper the the word.

There’s a different plan, time’s gonna make you a a different man
And they say there’s a country where the streets are paved with gold,
Where a man can find shelter far away from the cold.
And I ‘m sailing out to find it before I’m too old,
come summer.

He Takes a last look over his shoulder,
Sees the sun going down
Watched by no one around
So where are his friends now he needs them?
‘Cause It was all they could do
To start life anew
So they’ve left taking memories with them.
But with those who have cared
A sweet magic, magic is shared
And its’ charm will always, always be with us,
Clear and sharp as a sword, So just whisper the word.

There’s a different plan, time’s gonna make you a a different man
‘Cause they say there’s a country where the streets are paved with gold,
Where a man can find shelter far away from the cold.
And I ‘m sailing out to find it before I’m too old,
come summer.

By the way, I had to fix these. They were pretty wrong on Horslips site. I dunno if they came from the LP cover or what, but damn, I hate wrong lyrics on the web…

  1. Writers block. Welcome to my world… I haven’t written anything not-online that’s longer than maybe ten pages in more than three years. Lend me your ear, I’ll tell you all about self loathing.
