Snow day!

We get a full-blown schools-closed snow day in Austin like once every two or three years. All it takes are enough icy bridges to shut down the freeways.

So I would have told the biggest Red Sox geek in the house about Mirabelli when he woke up this morning, but he's already up at the golf course using a plastic bin lid as a sled.

Meanwhile, on the "oh that's so precious" front:

We have lots of trees on our lot, which means we have lots of squirrels, which means that our dog Beezus spends a lot of her time going nuts trying to catch one. Sometimes it's cute, sometimes when she's got one treed in the back yard and starts barking when she's supposed to just be having her 7:00am pee, it's annoying. But we always joked, of course, that if she ever caught one she wouldn't know what to do with it.

Well, today Beezus finally got her squirrel:

Beezus gets her squirrel

She didn't actually catch it. She found it dead. Frozen stiff. And she didn't tear it up like a plush toy or a chewie. She gently picked it up in her mouth, carried it over and laid it down on the ground in front of Gina. Then nuzzled it a little and looked up at her as if to say "Please, can you make it go?" And then she nuzzled it some more.

Our dog Cosmo caught a squirrel in our back yard once. She chased it down and grabbed it. Then instinct took over and she started shaking it. Cathy got her to drop it, and the squirrel sort of crawled away slowly while screaming very loudly. I know it's natural and all, but we found it kind of disturbing.

Heh. I know the look. "I got it, now what? C'mon, now what?" My cats managed to bring in a chicken one time, a young one. Must have stunned it and then dragged it in the cat door, then it came to in the middle of the night. We wake up, and the chicken's marching up and down in front of the stereo cabinet while the cats look at us like "What do we do now?"

Yes, big sister of Ramona The Pest. That was the current favorite book series with the oldest when the dog showed up in our life.

I would like to offer an opinion about your website. I have been told that you have amazing pizza, so I came to your site looking for a telephone number to make a to go order. I am a web designer and as a result usually have little difficulty navigating sites. I am of the opinion that your home page (at least) is a bit too busy to assist a visitor in locating desired information within a reasonable amount of time before losing interest and leaving the site. Just thought you may want an outsider's neutral opinion which will in no way affect my frequenting your establishment. I mean, hey, everyone loves a great pie!

Amy. Sweety. Darling. I love that you've stopped by here and offered comments, but really, kiddo, you might want to brush up on your web navigation skills a little bit more.

I see you arrived here by googling "home slice pizza, austin", which I reviewed in a blog post a couple of weeks ago. See, this is a blog, not a pizza joint. I'm sorry that google ranks my blog above the actual pizza restaurant's site for that particular search, but it wasn't intentional on my part and I don't really have a lot of pull with the Google crowd to get it fixed. They're all too busy counting their money anyway.

If you want some pizza, try http://www.homeslicepizza.com. It's really good, and the subs are great too.
