Sacredome
I haven't felt this good about a sporting event since the Red Sox won the World Series.
OK, it wasn't nearly that good, but it's definitely been the sport high point of the last two years. (Other than Liam playing catcher.)
I got to be on the floor during the Green Day/U2 set, with the Arabi Wrecking Krewe, Uncle Lionel and Benny from the Treme Brass Band, and about 800 high school students. The music was just OK; the sound was actually really terrible where we were standing so we could barely hear it. We were definitely not there for the musical experience as much as to serve as extras for the ESPN broadcast. I think the folks at home had the best seats.
After 30 some odd years, I might have to finally become a Saints fan. It means I'm going to have to become a football fan, but a small price to pay.
What a great fucking day.

Careful, football can suck you in when you're not looking. I'm still not a "football fan," but put me in front of a TV with a game and no real alternatives and by the end of the game I'll be yelling at the screen. Doesn't matter who's playing. Unless it's the Raiders. They always have to lose. It's an ex-boyfriend thing.
Oh, and the Colts and/or the Bears always have to win, I don't care how unlikely it might be.

I'm not a football fan at all, but I was glued to my tv. The entire experience from the Goo Goo Dolls to Tom Benson dancing with the umbrella...was so incredible. It was so New Orleans from start to finish...winning the game was the cherry on top. I cant imagine the emotion inside the Dome, I know it was pretty incredible just sitting on my couch, thousands of miles away.

I'm for da Bares but the Ain'ts are my second team (followed by the Panthers).
I'm not a big follower of the football thing, but hearing about the 3-0 Ain'ts record is too cool.

The sound was pretty bad everywhere, even in the stands. The Dome has never been a good place for music.

The music rocked if you were at home.
The game rocked no matter where you were.
I haven't watched a Saints game in a long time.
It was incredible!

Dude, the saints fuckin' rocked last night. They made Mora's falcons look like a high-school team. And Mora is IMO the best young couach in the league.
I spent years hatin' the saints just cause they were in the same division (NFC West, for some insane reason) with the 49ers. Last night was the first time I ever was for them. And they could do no wrong last night. This morning I'm wanting a saints t-shirt.
That kind of play may be a blip - the moment carrying them along. But that's not how it looked, and if this team keeps playing like that, think playoffs, and hope for a superbowl. How fuckin' great would THAT be for NO? Either way, finally having a team that shows moments of greatness is a very good rallying point for civic pride, AND helps to keep national focus on the issues; not to mention, $$.

Last night was Magic on many levels. I kept going out front to groove on the vibrations from the Dome... they were answered by resonances throughout the areaand from places far away. New Orleans was back together, and not just to watch a game: it was communing.
Let's see if it keeps up for the next four months. We need the PR for rebuilding.

It was incredible, even from this, er, perspective. I wondered how I was going to feel after the game actually started, whether or not my life long fanship of the, you know, *whispering* Falcons, would overcome my more adult affection for New Orleans. New Orleans won, in every way. It is so unbelievably cool that you were on the field. Wow.
Great post. BTW, I think the game was way cooler than the Sox winning the series, even though I love baseball way more than football and hate the Yankees into my bone marrow (kind of like you Saints folks feel about the Falcons). Sorry, Gina.
I hope the Saints win the Superbowl. I hope they win the NFC at home.
