Order of the Phoenix

The best part of last night's viewing of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is that I had popcorn for dinner.

The movie was an accurate representation of the book in that it was a long and tedious something that has to be slogged through to get to the more exciting stuff in chapters 6 and 7.

I'm tired of the "everybody thinks Harry is a liar" plot device. I'm tired of random strangers wandering in off the streets every year to claim the most prestigious faculty position teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. I'm tired of Dumbledore stumbling through each chapter oblivious to what is going on around him.

Next time, more Tonks, please. I mean, woof!

I just posted a bit of a review in the Moronosphere's comments. I think I liked it better than you did, but I had issues. Then again, I had reread the book right before seeing the movie, which I think was a mistake. I won't do that with the next movie.

See I think that Book 6 (mostly set-up for what comes later) fits your description much better than Book 5. Plus the stuff you're tired of seems to indicate that you may just be tired of the series itself. The fifth book is still my favorite because it takes one of my favorite Harry Potter themes (that not all authority figures are trustworthy or honorable) and applies it to the world outside of the school. Also.. outside of Snape, Luna Lovegood is my favorite character in the series and she plays a big role in this book. She's given an even bigger role in the movie and so that's a plus as well.

As far as the film is concerned. I think the multiple changes they made remained faithful to the narrative.. and overall it's a much better movie than the last one which didn't carry the story along as well.

I think Luna Lovegood is awesome, but I deleted what I wrote about her because she's underage. But, yeah, she's replaced Moaning Myrtle as my favorite cute crazy chick.

Ok, Jeffrey and I agree on favorite characters Snape and Luna Lovegood. The world is coming to an end.

Oh god. Tonks is already the Potter character I most want to shag. That settles it.

I never go in expecting much of the films, and thus am never much disappointed. I enjoyed it in as much as I expected it to be mediocre but fun to look at. But the films are never great. And at this point in the series, there's just too much to cover for the movies to be at all character-driven, and that erases the entire feel of the books.

The actress who plays Tonks is cute, so I accepted her, but she doesn't look at all as she's described in the book, and that pissed me off. Where is the spiky pink hair, I ask you?

Bellatrix and especially Umbridge were brilliantly cast. Luna Lovegood's casting was a major letdown, though.
