More reasons to love New Zealand

Lisa of Irks and Delights mentioned in some comments the other day how becoming a reform Kiwi may someday be her way of making like Einstein and getting the fuck out of here if the current national madness takes a turn for the worse.

I admit that New Zealand has always been near the top of our list as well, behind Vancouver and Montreal. That plane flight seems awfully daunting, but this may make up for it:

Topless porn star parade in Auckland gets OK

Unless the local rollergirls start shedding their sports bras, I'm finding this hard to pass up.

A friend of mine and her husband are seriously considering moving to New Zealand. One reason is the cost of living. Another reason is work (hubby is a comic book artist and friend is a pediatrician and it seems to be easier for them to work there, even as foreign nationals). But a huge reason is the state of the US - they can't take it for much longer. And as she is a serious political activist and one of the founders of the Progressive Caucus of the California Democratic Party, she must think things are getting pretty dire.

No news, though, if the topless porn star parade has any bearing on her husband's reasoning...

ya know, Melbourne is regularly voted amongst the top most liveable cities *in the world*. You should add it to your list if you don't mind dealing with a bit of generalized anti-American hostility. (I almost always tell people I'm from CA rather than Texas, since they figure TX == Dubya).
Aussies are not real prudish either, though I must admit I haven't noticed any topless parades this month.

Though.. there are days when I would just about kill for some good Mexican food.

Carol: I'm hoping this election cycle swings the pendulum back some.

Amy: I know what you mean. I'm glad I can now say I'm "from New Orleans" again, and say that Texas was just a place I lived for a while.

And if you get to work on those topless parades down there we'll bring you some enchiladas.

Hmmm. Topless parade at lunchtime in Aukland? Sounds like something that might happeh here, doesn't it?

New Zealand is far, but if I can recreate New Orleans there, (which I will attempt if this city, state and country stay on the same path, complete with the people that will make it right, (I'll probably have to tie my mother to a rocking chair and haul her away, like they did to Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies), distance won't be an issue. Renard suggested calling our outpost New Aukleans, New Zealiana, but I think we may have to come up with something better.
