May 3rd

13 years ago today, Cassidy poked her head out for the first time, looked around, and decided to stay.

One of my mother's first thoughts upon learning of her new granddaughter was "Her birthday is May 3rd. Just like the May 3rd flood."

May 3, 1978. At this very moment 29 years ago I was paddling a pirogue around a flooded Algiers with a bunch of other junior high delinquents. Da water never got into our house.

Sadly, this will be the first time in Cassidy's life that James Brown is not celebrating along with her.

Happy Birthday to Cassidy!!

You do realize, don't you, Ray, that these are officially the dreaded 'teenager' years, right? :P

Happy Birthday, Cass!

Did you sing "Moon River" to her?

Holy crapola, she's a bit younger than my niece and a tad older-looking. We've gotta go shopping for that baseball bat or a crowbar. Remind me to pinch my cabinet-member's* cheeks and take lots of pictures of her the next time I see her. I know she'll love it. ;-)

*She knows what I'm talking about.

Drop her a happy birthday for me.

I know you are already having hell with it. :)

Happy birthday Cassidy.

Oh yeah, the May 3 flood. We were mad at my mom because she wouldn't let us take a raft out onto the street and into the very orange-y water. At the time, I didn't quite understand why she was so adamant that we not touch the water. Heh.

Welcome to 13. May we both survive it.

Oh, and tell her I said 'happy birthday, baby!'

A very happy belated birthday to Cassidy.

My boyfriend has two teenage kids, so from what I can see - yes, these are rather challenging years.

Good luck, Ray.

Wish Cass a happy birthday from us. She seems like a really great kid, the kind that won't give you a lot of teenager trouble. I'll be praying for you nonetheless, and taking notes since I have less than 3 years before I'm there with you...though at times Rachel seems to think she's a teenager already.

Oh, and I remember the May 3rd flood very well. I was a sophomore at Dominican and headed there in the morning but turned my parent's big 1970 Galaxy 500 around half-way to school and watched the water rise from the Duncan Donuts on Jefferson Hwy. The water was getting pretty deep when I headed home but the Galaxy made it and May 3rd still holds the record for the highest flood level in their neighborhood.
