I'm back, again

Thanks to everybody who helped out or expressed concern for my well-being. You know who you are and you're the sweetest and bestest.

I had several different real life events converge on me from different directions and collide with my blog world all on the same day, all while I was on the way home from a fun but overwhelming trip to New Orleans, so I asked Karl to take the blog offline while I sorted things out in my head.

I've made some adjustments to the archives, made some apologies to loved ones who I inadvertantly hurt with some thoughtless entries, and now I think I'm back. There are certain aspects of my life that are no longer going to be discussed here. Such are the consequences of blogging non-anonymously, I guess.

So, uh...nice weather we've having, eh?

"Such are the consequences of blogging non-anonymously, I guess."

Man, how many of us have gotten to learn that lesson the hard way over the past 6 months or so? You're like the fifth person I know (myself included) who has done the "blog retool" after being "discovered" by family, friends, co-workers, etc. Now you'll get to have the frustrating adjustment period where you *want* to write about the topics you no longer will put in your blog. Anonymity has its advantages, I suppose....

Anyhow, glad to see you back!

Glad you're back!!

Yeah, when a student finds my blog it isn't always the prettiest thing. But at least, all my side of the family is dead, so I don't have to worry about that.

Ever since my mom started reading le blog, I can no longer explore certain topics. The lyrics to Prince's Darling Nikki, for instance.

Nor can I liken the toupee of a certain family member to Marge Simpson's hairdo.

Damn.

Perhaps we should set up doppelblogs or PG-13 versions. You have to be smart and/or devious enough to find the secret button which will translate the page into wicked, gory and utterly honest.

Oh, oh, oh, and to post pictures of female friend in pasties to Flickr or not? That is the question.

Whether 'tis nobler to suffer the sharp intakes of scandalized breath from super-conscious mother, family members and friends or go with the classic Feynman "What do you care what other people think?" approach.

Posted by: Maitri at April 10, 2006 3:43 PM

I'm with Feynman. He was a big fan of the ladies.

Posted by: Ray at April 10, 2006 3:47 PM

That is why I cherish my (relative) anonymity. Did I spell that right? Ah, the horror of being discovered as a perv *and* a bad speller.

Wishing you well, and if you decided to make a special blog for only your friends, I hope you'll give me the secret password.

Posted by: alwaysarousedgirl at April 10, 2006 4:37 PM

I"ve tried the secret private blog. Turns put theego gets in the way and I can't do it; either out myself by accidentor just stop blogging.

Blogging is about attention. I can't get the attention ifit doesn't have my name on it, and if it has my name on it, people can find me.

I live with these limits. But then I don't mind if my mom reads my blog. Hell, my mom reads *rays* blog.

"Turns put theego"

That's turns out the ego for the rest of us.

:-P

I have a secret journal, the presence of which few know about. Sometimes I want to shoot off missives to the ether and just not care about the social ramifications. Also, if I don't want anyone pesky accidentally stumbling across it, I mark it as Private and only my friends see it.

There I can (*&%$&*&%$#$%%&()(*^#!!@@##$^&*(*&^%$#$%^&* at politics, the family, the universe and everything all I want and, boy, does it feel good!

Posted by: Maitri at April 10, 2006 8:00 PM

You mean you haven't met Turnsput Theego? Man, that Bulgarian dude can even drink ME under the table.

I am awaiting the URL for your secret journal. You know where to find me.

Posted by: Ray at April 10, 2006 8:28 PM

WHEW! Glad you're back. If you insulted me in my absence, I forgive you. :)

I have a secret journal, where I don't go blue, and write grammatically correct English.

Posted by: ashley Morris at April 10, 2006 10:31 PM

mmm, i got the feeling that feynman actually DID care a lot what other people thought of him. some people, that is. (ones who think it is cool to calculate logs in your head.)

just like you care very much about the people you love, ray. makes sense. i'll miss hearing about the full spectrum of your thoughts, but not hurting the core people you love is important.

yeah, feynman was a big fan of the ladies. but not all the ladies were big fans of him.

Hey there. Glad to see you back. Nice template change, too.

Naming or not naming yourself on your blog...there are benefits and disadvantages to both. Though I can post more personal information on my blog and hope no one figures out it's me, there are certain things you just can't blog if you don't want the connection to be made.

To use one example from your life: you'd not be able to promote your anthology on your blog and gain readership for it if you were anonymous.

Posted by: Miss Syl at April 11, 2006 8:35 AM

Ray,

I'll give you the URL to that journal if you promise not to laugh at the stupidity and inanity that often graces it. Shit, I don't want my regular readers knowing I post the results of blogthings quizzes, wax poetically about pirates (my passion), yell at people who don't know math and misuse/abuse English and (#$%^& at my family, friends, etc.

Plus, you'd have to get an account. Ick.

...wax poetically about pirates (my passion)...

Maitri, I'd like you to meet Karl.

Karl, this is Maitri.

Posted by: Ray at April 11, 2006 4:32 PM

Well I've been told I'm writing too much about the bad stuff in N.O. which everybody knows already and are sick of hearing and I should go back to writing about "light" subjects. Who knows, maybe that's right.
Glad you're back ----TM

Posted by: TravelingMermaid at April 11, 2006 6:15 PM

TM, you should write what feels right. Some people are sick of the bad stuff, but some people don't want the bad stuff to be forgotten.
