Army Times: Refers to New Orleanians as "the insurgency"

http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-1077495.php

NEW ORLEANS — Combat operations are underway on the streets “to take this city back” in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. “This place is going to look like Little Somalia,” Brig. Gen. Gary Jones, commander of the Louisiana National Guard’s Joint Task Force told Army Times Friday as hundreds of armed troops under his charge prepared to launch a massive citywide security mission from a staging area outside the Louisiana Superdome. “We’re going to go out and take this city back. This will be a combat operation to get this city under control.”

They're out of their fucking minds.

I guess if you can't save 'em, might as well just declare war on them.

You have to read the entire story. Aside from the stupid inference to Little Somalia, there is a lot of validity in the article. Why would a Guardsman think he would be required to carry a loaded weapon when he's there to help.

I read the entire story.

I also saw the troops on TV at the convention center pointing weapons at innocent dying civilian *Americans* until General Honore told them to "point those goddamn weapons down".

There is a chorus of voices, on FOXNews and amongst the conversative punditocracy, who want the looting to be THE story instead of just a minor backstory. Read the blogs of the people who were there, who still are there, and you will get a very different description of the situation there.
