Movie meme

Updated: Another quote for #6.

Updated: All done. Clearly it was too easy.

I give. It's not like I've been posting anything else, and Hiromi, Karl, Syl, and DN have got me hooked on this movie quiz thingy.

Fifteen movie quotes. Guess the movie the quote is from. Answer in the comments. First one with the right answer gets fame and/or fortune and/or a cookie. (Note: being mentioned on my blog counts as fame.) For bonus points, tell me the actor and the character name.

And no cheating. Yes, Google and IMDB and anything else like it are cheating.

T-P: High river puts city on alert

Here's some cool close-to-realtime data on the Carrollton river gauge, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is actually located a few blocks downriver from Carrollton Avenue at the Army Corp of Engineers site on Leake Ave.

Yes, Leake Ave. is what the Corps calls home.

Kinda like David Vitter renting a condo on Bangenhooker Boulevard, I suppose, but that's likely apocryphal.

Oooooh, Obama

It's been decades since a leader of Obama's stature has delivered a speech on race and racial controversy with such candor and honesty and subtlety and passion. The man's thinking is right.

I urge you to watch the whole 37 minute version.

I will give him money, I will wear his shirts, I will work for his campaign, I will vote for him.

Sleep. Why always sleep?

It seems like my life revolves around sleep. Sleeping when I shouldn't, not sleeping when I should, but always thinking about whether I should or should not be sleeping right this very second. Usually I'm not getting enough of it, I'm staying up later than I should or having to get up at weird times to do weird things like drive to hockey tournaments on the Northshore at 6:30 on a Saturday morning. Or that my meds kick my ass in funny ways and my sleep deficit comes crashing down on me at 2pm on a work day and I disappear for a nap.

I got back from a week in Austin late Friday night, a week in which I didn't get nearly enough sleep although I ate plenty, a week in which I also picked up the virus that all my Austin coworkers had been talking about in email the last six weeks. I get off the plane and immediately get sucked into running errands, get to bed at 1am, get up at 5:45 for the hockey, sniffle and sneeze my way through three games, drive home, eat lunch, drink Nyquil, and am asleep by mid afternoon.

Now it's 3:00am and I'm well-rested and wide awake and starving. And I can only think of two things. Where can I get a decent non-fast-food burger at this time of night? And what is this going to do to my sleep for the next couple of days?

Maybe I should take more Nyquil.

A chat with Chin Music Press

Anthem Magazine has published a short but interesting interview with Bruce Rutledge and Craig Mod of Chin Music Press. They talk about their online projects and some future publishing works, including a second edition of Do You Know What It Means.

(Hey Bruce, does that mean I get another check?)

This is also a heads-up, if you don't know already, to keep tabs on their Voices of New Orleans blog. Edited by Colleen Mondor of Bookslut, it's like the BoingBoing of all things having to do with post-Katrina New Orleans; not just aggregating content at random, but choosing the best and most relevant post-Katrina news of the day from the MSM and blogs and giving it some context along with a link.

New Package is peaking

The Wire finale is this Sunday, and things are heating up at our Wire blog, Got That New Package. Please do check it out.

I've got a pretty decent post up right now, just writing what I know.

Also, in case you missed it, NuPac writer Nancy Nall was the blogger who brought down a Karl Rove crony and White House staffer by outing him as a fucking plagiarist. When she's not making international headlines, she writes good stuff about the best fucking show on television.

The comments are where the real action happens...you can find out who's ahead in the series of bets between the Perfessor and I on the final outcomes of various characters. Each bet payable in either Jameson or lap dances at She-She's, depending on who wins.
