Peter Blegvad -- Driver's Seat.
It's that time again.
I learned of Peter blegvad through my sister. Of the two of us, Hen was always the sharper, the more creative, the one with better taste, the one with spark. I came back to live with my folks one summer and found myself looking at her books and records one afternoon.
There's an album of his that I always wanted to put up on here for people, one song at a time; Blegvad's awesome to me because he doesn't just write songs, he tells stories, simply and elegantly. The song "shirt and comb" and "gold" captures what love and commitment mean for me in a way that no other songs have ever managed to do. I know his songs sound humble and plain and I'm sure to many people are techincally amateurish and irritating. But to me they are lit from within by a fierce inner beauty that brings me to tears way faster than many better written songs.
This small offering that I found on Youtube is darker than his usual fare, but it strikes a chord all the same right now. I hope someone finds this and likes it.
Hen, you were a good sister. Look after that baby of yours. I'll miss ya kiddo.
